K-80 Trap Special, Gold Target - 081924
A rare opportunity to acquire a Krieghoff K-80 in true “All American” Trap gun specification with both over/under and unsingle barrel. Perfectly suited to UK DTL with the unsingle barrel being ideal for the singles championships and perhaps the lifetime trip to the Grand American or one of the satellite Grands.
Engraving
The engraving is a pattern known as “Gold Target” and is the only one to have ever come to the UK. This one was engraved by Marcus Frühauf and is exquisite in the detail. Flowing scroll and foliage covers the entire surface. This is the pattern upon which the “Monarch” was based. The top latch features a gold inlaid broken target and the words “Gold Target” are discretely inlaid in gold to right and left of the receiver.
Barrels
This Krieghoff K-80 features both 32” over/under barrels and the matching 34” unsingle barrel. Both in Trap Special configuration with the high adjustable rib for lower recoil and enhanced target visibility. Both barrel sets have the Krieghoff screw in choke system and are fitted with genuine Krieghoff titanium chokes. The handling and balance are very similar between the 32” over/under and 34” unsingle. Both barrels weigh the same.
At the front of the rib there is a wheel that raises or lowers the rib. Raising the rib at the front lowers the point of impact whilst lowering it raises the point of impact. This coupled with the hanger system on the over/under barrel set allows precise customisation to the user’s preferred point of impact.
Stock
The stock features the Dawson Enterprises “Stock Lock System” for superior recoil reduction. Designed by more than 20 times All American and Hall of Fame Trapshooter, Pat McCarthy. The design holds five U.S. Patents and features an innovative lock that prevents premature collapse of the shock absorbing system during gun mount and swing. At the instant the gun fires, the lock is released and the shock absorber collapses just behind the pistol grip. There is no movement of the comb on the face so cheek abrasions and bruises are eliminated. The system utilizes tapered springs for recoil reduction; these springs are completely self-adjusting from the lightest 24g (7/8oz) loads right up to the heaviest 32g (1 1/8 oz) handicap loads.
The comb is adjustable for height and cast.
Current stock length is 15⅛” (384mm)
The stock comes with a multitude of spare parts and includes the full instruction manual.
The stock is fitted with the Krieghoff pad adjuster that allows the pad to be raised, lowered, moved right or left or rotated in either direction. It also allows changes to the pitch measurement so you can increase or reduce the length at toe.
Summary
The gun weighs in at 10lb 6oz (4.72kg) with either barrel set. The weight, combined with the head up position and recoil absorbing stock makes this a pleasure to shoot over multi day competitions, even when using punchy loads.
Being a Krieghoff, the action can be fitted with any K-80 barrel and wood set so the All American Trap gun can become a lively Parcours or SuperSport in literally a few minutes.
I ordered this gun for the current owner in 2008. He has owned it since then and had much enjoyment from it. It has been incredibly well looked after and I know he is sorry to see it go. I am honoured to help him find this unique gun a new home.
